Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is spreading over 77 sq.km. and is about 450-748 m. above sea level. This sanctuary extends over the Thodupuzha and Udumbanchola taluks of Idukki district. It is a home for various rare animals and plants.
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is spread across 777 sq.km, of which 360 sq.km is thick evergreen forest, It is a Tiger Reserve and noted for its geomorphology, diversity of wildlife and scenic beauty, the Reserve attracts visitors from all over the world. Artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar adding more beauty to the park. Thekkady is situated on the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Boating through the lake is an easy way to watch wild animals.
Chinnar Wild life Sanctuary is situated on the Tamilnadu Boarder, 60km from Munnar. The Chinnar wild life sanctuary is spread across 90.44 Sq.km. Trekking through the pristine scrub forest offers advantage of watching wild animals like Giant Grizzled Squirrel. Thoovanam waterfall is situated on Chinnar wild life sanctuary.
Beauty of Idukki
Eravikulam National Park is spread across 97 sq. km. Eravikulam National park is situated in the Devikulam taluk from a distance of 15km from munnar. This is the only place in kerala where we can see Nilgiri tahr. The Anamudi peak (2695m),highest peak in south India is located in the southern region of the park.
